Discovering My Natural Silver

I started my transition in April 2025, at a point where it became clear I could no longer keep up with colouring my hair. What had once felt manageable began to feel relentless, and the sections of emerging “silver” were becoming too strong to mask. On top of that, my hair was clearly suffering from the ongoing exposure to colour chemicals. Something had to change so I made a decision: to stop fighting it and allow the change to happen.

That choice definitely wasn’t without apprehension. I love being Clear – the vibrancy, the saturated shades, the strong contrast – all of which work beautifully with the creative side of who I am. Letting go of hair colour meant stepping into the unknown.

As my colour grew out, I quickly realised there was far more silver than I’d expected. At the same time, my natural roots were still dark, creating a striking mix.

Because I already have a cool skin tone, I knew that wasn’t going to change. The question was where I’d land overall. Cool felt inevitable, but I suspected I might sit somewhere between Cool and Clear. That’s exactly where I am now.

My colour characteristics have shifted from Clear–Cool–Deep to Cool–Clear–Deep, and it feels absolutely right. My eyes are still bright, the contrast is still there, and clarity has definitely stayed with me. I’m still far better in contrast and saturated tones than muted ones, and I still need depth to feel my best.

My hair now is a silvery dark brown, with some stronger silver highlights woven through it – all completely natural. And I’m genuinely enjoying it. Moreover, my hair is in far better condition than it was when I was colouring it. It looks healthier, feels stronger, and reflects light in a way it never did before.

The transition itself has been surprisingly fast, and I’m so pleased I chose to do it now. Instead of a harsh demarcation, I’ve ended up with a blended, natural result that feels authentic rather than forced.

That said, perseverance has been key.

Wearing cooler shades has made all the difference. They make my hair colour work in a way that even coloured hair never quite achieved. Re-aligning my wardrobe has not only elevated my appearance, it’s also very satisfying for the Natural streak in my style personality. Everything feels more cohesive and intentional.

Most importantly, wearing the right colours has given me the confidence to truly wear my own hair colour. My clothes and my hair now complement each other and that harmony shows.

This journey hasn’t just been about letting silver grow in. It’s been about clarity – in colour and also in self‑acceptance. And now I can confidently say that the right shades of colour and my natural hair work beautifully together.
